Gathering Information:
How will you know if you are being a thoughtful researcher?
![]()
Before you begin another session of searching, your class may discuss these expectations for quality research.
You will:
Plan
- your little questions make clear what you are looking for
- you add and toss out questions as you go
- you change your questions
Gather
- you use your little questions to find the "good stuff"
- you use a variety of sources for information
- you gather enough information to make a good choice
Sort and Sift
- you collect only information that helps you make your choice
- you organize your information into your table
- you check your table and toss out unnecessary information
Synthesize
- you look through your table to find weak spots
- you add more questions, gather, sort and sift out if needed
- you consider each category before making a choice
- you feel confident that you are ready to choose
Next you will use selected Internet sites to continue your research.
