The Bellingham School District has provided the opportunity for early release of students for the staff to work
specifically on school improvement.
We believe that these early release days will be a very valuable tool for improving education at Silver Beach.
Silver Beach students will be released at 12:30 p.m. on the following days:
ELEMENTARY STUDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST:
Sharon Missiaen is the Elementary Student Support Specialist (ESSS) for Silver Beach. She is the team leader on
most Special Education assessment teams. She also works with small groups and whole classes presenting lessons
on conflict resolution, decision-making, study skills, and anger management to reinforce positive values. She sees
a few children individually for limited sessions with parent approval. Time is also spent consulting with parents
and teachers about individual students. If you feel the ESSS could be of assistance with your child, please call
the school.
EMERGENCY INFORMATION
A registration form is kept on file for each student and is updated each fall. It is important that this information
is kept current in case of emergencies or other matters regarding your child. Information that may change during
the course of the year could include the following: phone, address, emergency numbers, work numbers, names of people
allowed to pick up your child, doctor's numbers, etc. Please call the office immediately if any of the information
should change during the course of the year.
EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS PLAN
As part of a district-wide effort, the Silver Beach Emergency Preparedness Committee has devised an emergency preparedness
plan, which we are ready to implement in case of an earthquake, fire, hazardous materials leak, volcanic eruption,
heavy snowstorm, or any other disaster.
Disaster preparedness is a complex and on-going task. There are many considerations to ensure the safety and comfort
of our children. One of the first priorities is a "student comfort kits" for each child at Silver Beach.
This kit would sustain a child until larger emergency goods could be distributed. Kits will be stored in each classroom.
The school updates these kits each year with help from the SBEA.
