HEALTH

If your child has any special health problems (i.e. diabetes, allergies, etc.), please notify the child's teacher and our office. This information should be written on the registration form.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL

Washington State law states that medications may not be dispensed by school personnel without a physician's order. This includes over-the-counter medication such as cough drops, aspirin, ointment, etc. If your child should need to take medication during school hours, please contact the office prior to bringing the medication to school. Medications may not be delivered to the school by the student. There are specific forms and directions we need to share with you.

IMMUNIZATION FORM

Washington State law states that all children must be immunized in order to attend school in Washington State. The law does make exceptions for religious or personal reasons, however an immunization form must still be on record. If you have not completed a form, please stop by the school office and fill one out. Please keep office personnel updated on additional immunizations your student receives.

SCHOOL NURSE

Brenda Goebel is the school nurse who serves Silver Beach Elementary. She is in our building one day a week. At all other times, she can be contacted through the Special Services Department at 676-6514.

SCOLIOSIS SCREENING

A state law requires scoliosis screening of all 5th grade students. Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine and is easily treated if detected early. Screening is done in the spring. Parents will be notified of the screening date by letter.

VISION AND HEARING SCREENING
All children in grades K-5 will receive vision and hearing screening in the fall. If there are any problems noted, you will be contacted by the school nurse.

HIGHLY CAPABLE LEARNERS PROGRAM

The Bellingham School District offers a highly capable learners program for students. Nominations can be made by teachers, parents or community members. Nomination forms are available in the school or in the HCL office at Roeder. The nomination process includes testing, which measures creative and critical thinking skills and academic achievement indicators. A multi-disciplinary team evaluates the testing and identifies students for the highly capable program.
