This house is located at 910 Bancroft Street. It was built in 1856 as the home of Captain George Pickett who was sent to protect American citizens from Native Americans. He first built a stockade three miles west oft Whatcom Creek which was called Fort Bellingham. Then he began his house on the bluff above Henry Roeder's sawmill.

Pickett's house is made of planks from the sawmill. The main part of the house is one 15 feet wide and 25 feet deep. There are two rooms on the first floor. The second floor, which had to be reached by a ladder, had two bedrooms. A lean-to on the west side of the house, contained a simple kitchen and dining room. Heat came from a stick and mud fireplace. The front room of the house was called the "study". This is where Captain Pickett conducted his official business.
