This house is located at 2600 Sunset Drive. It was built for Victor Roeder, the son of our city founder Captain Henry Roeder.

Victor was a well known businessman in Bellingham. After his father's death in 1902, he took care of his family's business and property. At one time, he was the treasurer of Whatcom County. In 1904, he became one of the founders of Bellingham National Bank.

In 1900, Victor bought ten lots in the undeveloped Broadway Park area. He used seven of these to build his house. The house was started in 1903 and continued being built for five years!

This house is truly a beauty! The outside is brick on the first floor and stucco on the second. The front and rear entrances are trimmed in Chuckanut sandstone which was mined from Henry Roeder's quarry.

The inside of the house is finished with the best materials that were available at the time. Imported oak was used on the floors, stairways, bannisters and wainscoted walls. The lighting fixtures were made for gas and electricity.

This house is now known as a Whatcom County Park called the Roeder home. It is open to the public and used for many different occasions.
