The American-Reveille, July 22, 1916 SCORES ENJOY GALA DAY AT LAKE WHATCOM From start to finish-an early start and a late finish, the guests of the Puget Sound Traction, light & Power company and the Pacific Northwest Traction company at their annual picnic at the White City yesterday, were kept fully entertained. In the afternoon a program of sports, in the evening water races and at night a dance helped to entertain the big crowd, while free ice cream, lemonade and coffee helped to fill them up. It was estimated that between 800 and 1,000 persons, for the most part employees of the two companies and their families, were in attendance, and although a slight fall of rain in the evening put a damper on the spirits of the dancers this failed to affect the success of the picnic. ln a spirited baseball game the P.N.T. team won by a score of 12 to 6 from the P.S.T.L. & P. nine, while the employees of the latter company "came right back" at their conquerors by winning the honors in a tug of war. Canoe and boat races filled up the time between the conclusion ot the land sports and the opening ot the hotel ballroom for dancing. The batteries in the baseball game were, P.S.T.L. & P.: Olds, Olsen and Smith; P.N.T.: Bennett and Judy. Everything at the White City was free of charge. All amusement devices were in operation and the companies distributed forty-five gallons of ice cream in 2,000 cones and untold gallons of coffee and lemonade. The picnickers carried their own luncheon. Free transportation was given all employees and their families. Every employee ot the companies was enabled to attend the picnic, special shifts being arranged for the car men and automobiles sent to the outlying works of the company to convey the operators and mechanics to the White City.
