Design an Electric Car

Now is your chance to show what you have learned in our science unit on magnets and motors.

Each team will design and build a car powered by an electric motor. The car must be able to move unassisted. Good luck!

The following materials must be standard on all vehicles.

  • styrofoam hotdog box
  • 1.5 volt battery
  • electric motor
  • small pulley
  • No. 16 rubber band
  • 4 "Push-Up" platforms
  • 2 sturdy, thin straws
  • home-made switch (see materials)
  • coated hook-up wire

Click on hotdog for pictures and details about materials.

These items will be available but are not required.
